What Is Tesamorelin?

Tesamorelin is a stabilised synthetic analogue of growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Researchers use it to study GHRH-receptor signalling, endogenous growth-hormone pulsatility and downstream insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) responses. How is Tesamorelin classified and what is its structure?

Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide analogue of the 44-amino-acid human GHRH sequence. Its N-terminal modification was developed to improve stability while retaining activity at the GHRH receptor.

Classification describes molecular identity and the receptor system used in research. It does not establish a use, safety profile or expected outcome outside a controlled study.

How is Tesamorelin’s mechanism studied in research?

GHRH-receptor activation is studied for its role in signalling within pituitary somatotroph cells. Controlled studies have measured downstream changes in pulsatile growth-hormone release and IGF-1, together with metabolic and body-composition endpoints defined by each protocol.

Those measurements are study-specific. They should not be extrapolated into a general claim about efficacy, safety or suitability for an individual.

What kind of research has been published on Tesamorelin?

A small controlled study measured endogenous growth-hormone pulsatility and insulin sensitivity over two weeks. Separate randomised protocols examined longer-term endocrine, metabolic and cardiovascular endpoints, with each paper defining its own population and controls. The synthesis literature has continued: a 2026 meta-analysis in Obesity Research & Clinical Practice pooled five randomised controlled tesamorelin trials and summarised their reported endpoints and limitations.

What compounds is Tesamorelin studied alongside?

In the published literature, Tesamorelin is grouped with the other GHRH-family analogues — sermorelin and CJC-1295 — and reviewed in the same framework as receptor-distinct growth-hormone secretagogues such as ipamorelin, which act at the ghrelin (GHS) receptor rather than the GHRH receptor. These groupings describe how the compounds are classified in published research; they do not imply equivalence between compounds or any human-use indication.
