Epithalon (also written epitalon; sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, “AEDG”) is a synthetic tetrapeptide derived from research on epithalamin, a bovine pineal-gland preparation. It is studied in cell-line and animal models examining telomerase activity and gene expression. Evidence for epithalon remains preclinical.
How is Epithalon classified and what is its structure?
Epithalon is a four-amino-acid synthetic peptide — alanine, glutamate, aspartate, glycine — created during the Russian peptide-bioregulator research programme as a synthetic analogue of pineal epithalamin. It belongs to the family of short regulatory peptides studied by Khavinson and colleagues.
How are Epithalon’s mechanisms studied in research?
The most cited mechanism work concerns telomerase: a 2025 study reported telomere lengthening in human cell lines with evidence for telomerase upregulation or ALT activity, extending earlier Russian cell-culture reports. Separate work has measured gene-expression and protein-synthesis changes during neurogenesis in cell models.

What kind of research has been published on Epithalon?
A 2025 overview summarises the compound’s published biology. The primary literature is dominated by cell-line studies and by the ageing-focused animal experiments of the original research group, published mainly between the 1990s and 2000s. Independent replication outside that group is comparatively recent and limited — a point the modern reviews make explicitly.
